IL's hunt for revenue continues

Brent P 31 March 2005 20:06:19

Because IL limited access highway speed limits are still in the NMSL dark
ages, the construction zone speed limits are even lower. 45mph normally,
but I've seen them as low as 35mph. They are often posted for short
sections of shoulder work.

While this article does not mention it, a WLS radio report stated that
the ISP will now enforce the work zone speed limit even when workers are
not present. (some signs have that, others don't. However I've seen 24/7
work zone signs for a few yards of shoulder work)

The photo enforcement is supposedly only when workers are present.

Driving 45mph in most work zones is practically asking to be rear-ended.
However, with photo enforcement, that means giving even that some margin.
I have an urge to drive 35mph in any work zone I encounter, but self
preservation and knowing the protest will be lost on people on not
register will likely prevent me from doing so.

Once again, the state makes us balance speeding tickets vs. driving
severely under the flow increasing risk.

I don't think they do. The signs read trailers have to use the manuals if
I remember right. Should still get the Ipass price break... And if nobody
sees you, there is nothing to detect it.
Just so long as you don't end up driving motorhomes on the interstate>> through downtown chicago....
Oh; you'd consign (con*demn*) me to I-294? I'd rather die. I actually> try to get through downtown off-peak. Before 6:30 am, early or late> midday (not noon), or after 7:00. I *have* hauled a horse trailer> through there once. Apologized to him profusely afterward ...

Actually you're probably the exception and would be ok. Just can't stand
these people who drive a motorhome in the middle/left lanes through the
circle interchange at 35/40mph....
You can always 'stay' on the edens (I94) as it becomes 41. (don't go to>> the right on to the edens spur just before lake-cook road) It's mini>> expressway most of the time at least to Gurnee. There are some stop>> lights breaking up sections of mini-expressway but it moves pretty >> good. No tolls at all that way.
I didn't know that's what it did. A couple of times, I've just blindly> followed the '41' signs to see where I ended up. Most of the time, I> had no idea where the hell I was. 94 veres west to I294, 41 continues going north until it meets up with 94
again in WI.
Actually, you answered it above. I just didn't realize it was that> simple. Guess I owe you a beer or sump'n. Coming to Road America this> summer? ;^)

I really should. :) But you can hold the beer until you've tried it since
I've only driven 41 as far gurnee. I don't know what the rest of it is
like to WI. Especially now. I've read the truckers are using 41 to avoid
the tolls.
