with hydraulic brakes. i prefered the hydraulic to electric because
electric leaves a lot to human error....not enough adjustment and you put
premature wear on your truck brakes....to much brake and you put premature
wear on your trailer brakes. based on the gvwr of the trailer (10,400
pounds) i had several friends insist that i drop the hydraulic surge brakes
(in favor of electric brakes) and i was able to make the change before the
trailer was built. now that im going with electric brakes i need to shop
around for an electric brake controller. id like to find one that is
"intelligent"....so­mething that will automatically adjust the amount of
braking on demand (if such a creature exists at a reasonable cost). since
my wife knows nothing about trailer brakes i need something that can do the
thinking for her, so that she can just hook up and drive. im seeking
recommendations for a controller, and the reasons why your recommendations
are better than the other guys recommendations.

 I usually just recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy (what I use), which is a very
good inertia-based controller - easy to install, easy to use. However,
there is some manual adjustment to it (you dial in the base amount of brake,
and can then select additional brake 'boosting' to compensate for a loaded
vs. empty trailer).

For this application, the BrakeSmart controller (http://www.brakesm­art.net)
may be a better choice. Once you initially set it up, that's it - you're
done. It works by measuring actual hydraulic pressure in the vehicle's
braking system, and applying a proportional amount of braking to your
trailer... essentially giving you the same type of response as a full
hydraulic braking system running to your trailer. You never have to worry
about changing the adjustments because you changed trailers or
added/subtracted weight.

that system looks promising...thanks!­ however, the website is saying there
are production delays. any idea how long these delays might be?
