 When I put my key in, it will not turn to start the van. Sometimes it lets
me start the van and sometimes not. Does anyone know how to fix this? I
just don't want to get stranded somewhere. Any info on this problem would
be appreciated.

If I had to take a guess I would say you have the 3.3 3.8 litre engine withy
a starter that has worn out contacts in it. Does it make a click when you
try to start it? And just curious, whets the battery look like? Corroded
terminals?

 The key will not even turn. You stick the key in the ignition and it will
not turn at all. It is locked and I tried another key which worked for a
couple days, but now it is doing it too. It happens off and on. It is
not the starter, it has to do with the locking mechanism. It is a 3.3
engine. When it does turn it starts with no problem.

The next time it happens tap on the key as you want to make it go further
inside the cylinder, at the same time turn it....if this allows it to turn,
your ign lock cylinder is bad, replace and recode

 Hey guys - my van just did the same thing; it is completely locked. And of course everything's electric so I can't even close the windows or put the thing in neutral. Nothing. I tried tapping the key in further and turning, still locked in place. So does it still look like ign lock cylinder or something else? And what's something like that run?

 Just spray the piss out of the ignition with wd40 and stick the key in hit it with a hammer a few times and it will work. You might have to do this a few times. Just had it happen to my 1999 dodge. I did just that and it worked.

:-)­ I had the same problem as most of the people above . Dodge caravan 2000 3.3 litre
w/an ignition switch problem. I knew that the switch was kinda touchie.. 151,000 miles will do that. usually i leave the key in the ignition and lock the door w/another key.
pulled into a restaurant for some cheer and apt's b4 a wedding. turned the wheel all the way to the left while parking and took the key out. sure enough when we came back out i couldn't turn the key either way. tried everything turning the steering wheel in the direction of the wheels, jacking up the front end- hoping that would help, spraying graphite into the ignition and sticking the key in and out several times. nothing worked for 3 days... and about 4 so called mechanic that thought they knew what the problem was. finally i read guest # 14 who said , spray the crap out of the ignition w/wd40 and hit the key w/a hammer. I fluft this off as a joke and as a last resort did just that. nothing happed the 1st few times , so I laughed and called a tow truck.. then i put another key in and gave it a good wack and it turned like butter... i thanked god and guest #14..

 :-)­ Thanks for the info. I have a 2002 T&C the ignition would not turn taped with a hammer it worked. I removed the switch and dissabled, cleaned, and put powered graphite lock lube buy Hillman on the switch. Bought it at Wal Mart for $1.90 with tax. Works better than new!!!

 OMG-Thank You Thank You Thank You for everyone that has listed all your perfect mallet input online.I drove my van to Kroger never had a problem with it before,the ignition switch locked on me i could turn the steering wheel but the key wouldn't turn back in the ignition switch because somehow it locked, we even tried jacking up the front end releasing the pressure off the steering wheel but nothing helped so then my husband did as everyone recommended he put the keys in the ignition hit it 1 time with a rubber mallet and BAM it worked i couldn't believe it, i was crying i was so happy and crying b/c the locksmith was on his way and he was going to charge me $300.00 to change the ignition switch when the switch itself online only cost $36.00 i can not thank everyone enough for all your advice.

 Hitting the key worked.I thought how can someone joke about something like this but I thought of giving it a try anyways because my husband was out of town.I put the key in ignition try to hit from the back of a hammer that had a rubber grip I was able to turn it to accessory mode.Tried to hit it again couple of times and it worked.
