That's cos "GP4 does remain though the game of choice for most leagues in
the world"

No mention of online racing...

It does seem very provincially oriented to the GP series for some
odd reason (obviously the work of a fanboy). Just how popular is
GP nowadays? [Checks RSC's GP subforum] About 20 posts in
this month, compared to over 10,000 (guess) for the GPL
subforum (F1C et al. also dwarfs GP's posts, even NR2003 after
the First controversy died down). Someone with less of a bias
should go and edit it-in particular we've had a lot of sports car
titles come out lately so:

"One particular feature of sim racing is its emphasis on Formula 1, as
opposed to other open-wheel racing series, sports and rally cars, and
most of all NASCAR..."

Got a chuckle out of that one...

Hmmm, I think GPL got a separate mention a while ago. This general
write-up seems to made by a rather obvious GP2/3/4 user, however.
(Although Crammon's Revs basically started the simracing genre I wonder
how many simmers would count those titles to be hardcore "sims", btw..)

Well, given that even in twenty years it will *still* take yer average
Joe several months to learn GPL enough to stay on the roads at racing
speed (NR, being mostly about ovals, bit less so), I'd say that would
still be seen as pretty hardcore - outdated, sure, but still pretty
'core I guess.

Nothing very relative about the blood, sweat, tears and lots of
swearwords it takes to get a 67 wingless F1 car under control!

(Unless mankind evolves into something alien-like in the upcoming
decades, of course...)
Revs gave me more than enough goosebumps to rank as a hardcore sim of> its day.

Amen, brother. I still have the original disk somewhere.

Well it depends on what you'd call a sim and whether people are just
referring to PC-based racing. I can remember playing motor racing games
on my old Sinclair Spectrum back in the early 80's. They weren't
exactly realistic but they involved driving an F1 car around the current
F1 circuits of the time. I think Nigel Mansell had his name in one such
title.

Though not an F1 sim, my favourite of the time was a motor bike racing
game called TT Racer. I remember being in awe of the fact you could
stop at some corners on various circuits and watch the other AI racers
head by on other parts of the track. :) You could also tinker with the
bike's setup in some basic ways as well.

Btw, none of these allowed you to plug in a steering wheel, which was a
shame.

Looks like a much better track is in the offing too.

They say other events may be added. Probably just wishful thinking but I
hope they're considering going back to Road America. You just can't be a
top level road racing series in the US without racing there.

Not a surprise to see Milwaukee moved back to Sunday. This year's Saturday
deal was a disaster. It would have been interesting to see it back to
Saturday night though.

Less of a gap between the season opener in Long Beach and the next race.
That's better. Two races in May, I wonder what Newman-Haas will do this
year?

All in all not too bad. And it's out early enough this year that we can
avoid a lot of the uncertainty in the last couple of years. Should be
better for finding sponsors.
