TOCA Race Driver 2006 Interview

The.Internet.User@Gmail.Com 17 March 2005 05:59:46
Here's an interview with Codemasters studio head Gavin Masters about
TOCA Race Driver 2006.

I found the original TOCA to be enjoyable on the PC. TOCA Race Driver
1 was great on the XBox, and the demo sucked on the PC. Never played
the TRD2 and can't recall reading anything positive about it. Maybe
this title will pan out.

TRD 2 on the Xbox, was almost a great racer. It had physics, that were
quite simmy by console standards, good graphics, very nice selection
of series and tracks. Solid Xbox Live support. And really shitty
replay value. The problem was that each series (Nascar, CART, F1,
Aussie V8, etc) had 3 or 4 tracks. You could ONLY drive those cars on
those tracks. So as much as you wanted to, say, drive Aussie V8s at
Donigton, or F3 at Mt. Panarama, it just wouldn't happen. This great
limited, at least in my view, the replay value.

TRD2 was an improvement over TRD1. With luck the third one will be better
than its predecessor. At least it will have qualifications instead of
assigning you a random starting order.

Will it have car setups that can be tweaked and real life races of more than
2-3 laps?

"Getting the car handling right for the wide variety of vehicles is a
process that continues from the first car model being available right
through to beta. Designers are entering the technical data for each vehicle
before fine-tuning each to perfection in conjunction with racing
professionals from each type of racing we include."

ROFL, yeah right. Get Real, Codemasters.
