Replacement elec aerial for 1.4i 93 Astra ?

T i m 25 April 2005 22:57:08
 Hi All,

The lekky aerial has started sticking on her Astra / Belmont (not
going right to the bottom) and this evening stared to attract the
attention of a local young chav (the cars 5 feet away outside the
front of the house ..??). I stood at the front door watching him and
when he noticed me he said 'what'?

Would anyone know if a 'universial' one will do (how much and from
where?), do I fit a genuine one or do I fit one of those rubber jobs
and just replace it whenever it get's cut off please?

All the best ..

Halfrauds etc used to sell "Astra" aerials - probably still do! Manual and
electric.
I've also seen universal electric aerials with a range of mounting collars
supplied to fit different vehicles - motor factors IIRC.

I presume it's a later Astra with the aerial on the rear nearside wing?
(What a stupid place - in rural areas every Astra and Cavalier driver had a
severely bent aerial from the hedges.) The "proper" aerials have the correct
mounting angle for the wing and the right connector to avoid having to cut &
paste or re-thread the co-ax and power cables.

Have you tried extending the aerial, cleaning it with a de-greaser or
solvent, lubricating it with a light oil applied with a cloth and then
lowering and raising it with some gentle manual assistance to see if you can
get it running fully and smoothly again. You've got nothing to lose, and it
can make a big difference to the operation of an electric aerial.

I wondered if they might ..

"Universal" <shudder> .. >

<looks up for spy plane> Y e s ... ?

And urban ones because for those that *do* park the right-way-round
they kerbside and are to the chavs like a Rubiks cube to the rest of
us .. fascinating for 30 seconds then you just want to break it ..?

That's what I thought .. I didn't want to go and buy the first one I
saw only to find a better match existed ..?>

Sort of .. on extension I noted it was also slightly bent (see hedge
observation above probably). It does now seem to go up and down now ..
after a fashion .. I did see mention of just a new mast on eBay ..
.. sould I ask my GM part dept?

True, I might even take it out the car and strip it down / clean it on
the bench .. as you say .. little to loose (apart from my life if
*she* has no radio ..<gulp>)

All the best ..
