How much can I haggle off?

 Time is here for me to look at a new (second hand not brand new) car.

When I bought my current Honda Accord I managed to get it for £10,000 yet it
was on the forecourt for £11,950. The price they gave for my old car was
exactly as the book so they appeared to drop £2,000 but took some pressure
on them. I guess the imminent new shape model may of meant they wanted to
clear stock.

I am looking at Ford Direct Mondeo 2 litre auto which I see are £10,750 to
£11,500 for Zetec 04 plate.
The other car I am looking at is a Volvo S60 2 litre auto but for the same
money couple of years older but seems to be such a good quality car the age
isn't noticed when driving.

Strange shortlist but there you go and any tips would be good? On the
choices or how much I could aim to knock them down and whether I can knock
down the Ford Direct and what Volvo dealers are like with haggling. Never
bought Volvo before.

Don't forget that Volvo are one of Ford's 'Premium Brands' but whatever make
your are considering, if they don't haggle to YOUR satisfaction, you'll buy
elsewhere.

Interestingly, I watched one of those 'good car, bad car' programmes on
satellite last night - one geezer with large wad and porsche wanted another
nice car - the porsche dealer was too tough and lost the deal - the fella
looked pleased as he took off in his new ferrarri around Goodwood with Damon
Hill in the passenger seat!

If the salesman doesn't offer you what you want, (car or finance) then he is
really inviting you to leave his premises.

Finance? I've been looking around for another car recently and have not
found a finance co offered by a dealer that can match the rates found on
www.moneysupermarke­t.com - and don't forget dealers finance usually adds
document fees of £150+ and final fees of £50+ onto your deal......
