Car hit counter digits

Sor 25 April 2005 11:07:19
Will be launching a free hit counter website next week (no adverts or
banners etc) .

I have digits that look like a floppy disc and digits that are on flames
etc etc .

Would like to offer digits with a car theme - but the only thing I can
think of is a round headlamp for each digit .

Any comments on what sort of digit style would appeal to people who have
a car website ? .

An odometer? You could take the image of a dashboard (like the one on
www.dervman.com/abs.htm perhaps) and change the odometer for the hits?

A reasonable idea , I already have the odometer type digits and could
suggest people could perhaps use a 3x3 <table> or summit to suit .

Or how about headstone digits saying rip rover .

I'd suggest a speedometer showing current hits per day / week / minute / year
(probably change the scale to suit the level of hits) and a "total miles/hits"
counter, maybe also a trip counter.

Bit obvious, maybe.

To expand on dervmans suggestion , A single <table> of a dashboard using
the dashboard image as a background table image - then use some spacing
width and height css to position the odometer digits hit counter to
where you want it .

The trip counter (todays hits ?) is beyond my coding skills .

I was thinking the speedo would show today / this week / this hour's hits, and
the trip counter would show the average per day / week / hour since the counter
was set up.

I dunno about the coding, would think you could use Asp and simply score the
points based on activation times and system time stamp, sommat similar with php
I suppose. What's the problem you see with it?

Its a pre written php script i'm altering to suit - i'm still on a
learning curve .

Keep in mind any user capable of doing things like this would do the
coding themselves and certainly wouldnt need my poxy little hit counter
service :-)

Fair enough, but there's at least two reasons for nicking the
code^H^H^H^H^Husing the link to your code, (1) laziness and (2) a desire to
look like other car-enthusiast sites who are using it.

I'd use it, when you're ready to unleash it onto an unsuspecting internet. :)

Fat chance - nobody ever uses my websites and I do them only for
amusement value :-)

Its on www.vhit.co.uk although I havent done the headlamp digits yet as
I have a taped F1 race to watch and then the snooker is on bbc
interactive at 7pm , Its usable but like many car projects its still a
work in progress .

Simple.

Find appropriate car badge digits - they're mostly a fairly "unique" font -
something like the BMW squarish ones for some digits, 80s Porsche-style,
the older Peugeot "long" digits for others, etc. With a little effort,
should be able to scare up a full set of 0-9 across three or four different
styles, mix'n'match.

It sounds to me you would like to do the above digits yourself - not
that i'm one to drop sledgehammer hints of course :-)

Just been trying to do some headlamp digits and it sounded a lot easier
than what it appeared , Reducing the headlamp glass to a suitable digit
size makes it look just like a round blob/button as you cant see any of
the glass ridges shadow effect thingy .

How about some old ford rostyle wheels instead , In theory there should
be enough gap/definition when reduced in size .
