The second hand value of Rover cars is going to collapse
and the 75 is a nice car.
Lots of opportunities ahead to get one cheap.

Not for me. The 75 didn't interest me at all until the V8 came out, and
it's not been a success. Why the hell would I want a FWD 75 when I could
get a Mercedes or BMW? Or a 75/ZT-T estate when I could get a BMW V70.

The V8 made the 75 interesting in the market.

But as a cheapish fairly new second car it would be a good deal.
I would be happy to have one parked next to my Merc.

Have you looked under one, Richard? There's no doubt it was originally a
RWD pan. The exhaust is *lost* in the tunnel, and the rear suspension
certainly looks very RWD-multilink-bar-driveshafts. I was sceptical until I
looked.
And no. I don't wear designer clothes. I wouldn't know what brand my > jeans were, but I know they're old and have holes in. Clothes are way,> way down the list of things I spend money on.

I've met Richard - I'll vouch for him on that one...

The floorpan is hardly the key, though - IMO. From what I've read it's
not that clear cut, either - quite a lot of re-engineering had to be
done to make it RWD for the V8 models.

I mean, it's not "largely BMW" like a BX is largely Peugeot 405 (or
rather the other way around), which have interchangeable rear axles on
the 4x4 model, interchangeable engines and so forth.

I haven't compared boot floor heights yet, which would be the real
giveaway (you make a FWD saloon you want to reclaim the space needed for
the diff and driveshaft movement). The different in boot depth between a
regular Jetta and a Jetta Syncro is something to marvel at. That could
be the source of the re-engineering worries if there is a difference.

I suspect the re-engineering is in the engine bay largely - for a start, a
longitudinal v8 and box is a lot longer than the transverse four...

The boot floor's got plenty of space under it from what I recall.
