A fuel burning heater like Ebersprächer or Webasto
http://www.webasto.com/home/en/homepage.html
is very useful if your screens start freezing while you drive. Small
diesel engines release too little heat for use in really cold areas
without an extra heater. Most cars in the north of Norway just rely on
electric heating of the radiator and possible diesel filter. You may
also plug an electric interior heater. DEFA is much used:
http://www.defa.no/ There are also other brands.
You plug it to a power outlet or to a timer in a power outlet. It gives
you a warm car in the morning with no ice or condense. I think it is
much quicker than any quick solution from Ford.
I can imagine dew is a problem in winter in UK. After weeks of fog and
rain and temperatures near freezing. The car is wet inside. You enter
the car with wet clothes. Outdoors it is close to 100% RH.
But I didn't know many of you had much proplems with icing. If you have
a small car that produces too little heat, you still don't need an
expensive fuel burning heater. You could change the thermostat to one
that opens at a higher temperature (only for use in winter). You can
also cover most of the front of the car with some plastic to reduce
cooling of the radiator at high speed. The cover could be between the
radiator and the front of the car and invisible.
