You've not been able to quote anything beyond the 1970s yet - show me an
occasion in the 1990s or later when taxpayer's money has been spent on the
company.

You've also obviously never sat in, let alone driven a Rover 75...

What they don't realise is BMW was planning to give £60k redundancy

And now...

"MG Rover workers were downcast as they emerged from a meeting with trade union
representatives, who spelled out the company's redundancy terms.

"They've told us to turn up Monday," said 43-year-old Ashley Wilkes, who has
worked at Longbridge for 18 years. "They've just told us we're entitled to 280
pounds ($524) for each year's service, up to the maximum of 12 years.

"It feels terrible."

Hrm, £60k in 2000 money or £3k in 2005.

THe Germans had no intention of making it work. They just wanted the> Mini name for their new car.

And the BMW Mini is based on Rover 25 running gear!

They're still benefiting from a VAT, excise and NI holiday as it stands.

Don't talk rubbish. There are no common parts whatsoever. The engine, for
example, is Chrysler - and about to be changed for a Peugeot/BMW joint
design.
