Whazzitworth? Dept.

An old friend recently bought a beautiful 59 Transtar truck that has
obviously been a trailer queen for a while. Many of you have seen this
truck at various shows, it's white and light blue. I have been ironing
out the bugs to make it drive as good as it looks, and the generator on it
had been "assembled" from bits and pieces from 2 different manufacturers
(Delco and Prestolite). Needless to say, the pieces didn't get along well
and murdered each other. I took a Delco generator off one of my parts
Champs and had it rebuilt for him. What should I charge him for the good
Delco? I must admit in all the years I have very little experience with
Studebaker trucks (always had Chevys that got passed down) and some of the
things on this truck that I will be attending to will need some input from
all you truck guys. I'm sure there will be a bunch more questions as we
get into it.

I think $75 or so for a rebuilt generator would be ballpark.

$75? I'll bet he paid at least that much to get it rebuilt. The last
time I had one rebuilt, it cost me $70...and that was about 10 years
ago.

Sorry, I rebuild my own. It costs me under $20 for the bearing and
brushes and takes less than a hour to do unless something is fried. I
can only get $25 or so for a good used working core, so I thought I was
in the ballpark.

if you gotta stick field windings in, or the armature- you hit
the $75 real easy..

bearings, clean, turn, etc.. can run $40 or so by itself..
