US WRX owners: What MPG are you guys getting?

Guest 7 April 2005 21:53:06
With the recent gas increase I'm looking to invest into a second vechile
that is better on gas, yet still fun to drive.

I'm looking to buy a brand new or slightly used 2005 WRX with the
5-speed manual. After testing the Accord Hybrid, Civic Hyrbid, Turbo
Jetta and the WRX, I like the WRX overall.

I see the sticker rates it at 20/27 City/Highway. Just curious what
others get out of theirs? What type of gas do you use? What style
driving (mostly city, half and half city highway?) What grade of gas are
you using?

Thanks
Chad

2002 WRX manual. Mixed driving and we average 26.3 on premium gas.

alot of stop and go during rush hour. I have a 2003, 22k miles, i do drive
it hard most of the time. At $2.38 a gallon i think i need to slow down.

 02 WRX Wagon, US
Around town / light driving - 21 mpg
Around town / heavy driving - 16 or less mpg

Freeway / cruising - 27 mpg
Freeway / passing - 23 or less mpg

Light driving / Cruising = not using turbo
Heavy driving / passing = using turbo 10-20 times in a tank (usually thru 1
maybe 2 gears). If you use the turbo all the time you can easily drop the
above numbers in half, especially around town.

23k miles, 93 octane, MT

mainly California driving (I-5), not much traffic

05 WRX 5spd wagon. I get about 24 to 25 mpg on steady highway cruising.
I didn't buy my WRX to get good mileage, I bought it for fun driving.

Getting about 25 in town and 31 on the highway on 110 octane (RON+MON/2)
leaded. Getting about 12-14 mpg at the track. Keep in mind that I am
running engine management and high octane fuel so I generally run a bit
leaner than most people would feel safe doing. I'm sure someone is gonna
ask why I use 110 leaded, the answer is because its only $.50 more per
gallon than 92 octane where I live and if I ran 92 octane I'd be back around
18/22 mpg w/ nowhere near the same power (due to different, more rich tune).
Also, I bypass my O2 sensors when running leaded and just run my wideband to
monitor AFR.

My 2002 WRX (5MT) averages 23.4MPG. I am just shy of 48,000 miles. Mixed
driving, slightly modded, but I got same MPG stock. I use highest octane,
which was 94..now 93 in MA.

WRX's arent good on gas, but its more fun than an Accord, Civic, or
Jetta..for me at least~

Yeah, but those are Canadian miles, so it all works out.

I just bought an "05" WRX (STI), it only has about 1800 miles on it and I
get about
23.6 mpg. I use the octane fuel I can 93 oct. Most of my driving is on the
highway and the rest is on gravel roads. The stock tires are not that good
on the gravel but what would expect.
I tend not to push it too hard unless the need arises.

26.34 US miles/gallon @17 miles to work each way every
weekday and mixed with at least three short trips of 5 miles each
week.

Oh Yeah 02 WRX with 61,000 miles on the clock.

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.
