Speedster detailing

John Poulos 8 April 2005 23:38:47
Found something else to do, I painted the gold in the hub cap centers. I
used 1/8 masking tape and the paint shown in the pictures. It drys
translucent and looks pretty nice. Pictures:

There's four more hubcaps within a couple yards of those, you may want
to practice on those to perfect your technique :)

I have enough paint for us to do a few dozen cars. I'll paint your caps
if you do my horn wire. <g>

That sounds like a bad deal, you need four hands to do a horn wire :)

Sounds kinky to me. Don't sniff the gold paint!

Eastwood tools wheel maskers. BTW, I did not have to paint the
Speedster wheels.

For a cheap & dirty job like a DD, I use a shirt cardboard held at an
angle so that the curve matches that's needed at the outside of the
rim, having cleaned / wire-brushed first.

Water-soluable grease can be used on the tire if you're neat.

If you want to get "around the corner" at the outside of the rim,
folded sandpaper might come in handy, but prime after sanding a/r
before painting.

To mask the tire valve, find a thin-wall plastic tube of the right
size, pushing it down so it doesn't quite touch the rim.

Best job is to remove tires, blast, prime and paint.

Karl

That's exactly what i did with the rims for the jeep I'm doing.
Demounted the tires. sandblasted the rims with an industrial
sandblaster (got all 5 done for $29), and primed with DP40, then
painted s**t-brindle green. They turned out looking great.
