(OT) The used car to buy"

Midlant@Earthlink.Net 4 April 2005 02:41:12
There was an article in the SD paper a while ago about a person who
moved far away fromj the city so that he could afford a house.
He works on the eastern fringes of San Diego, so he doesn't get into
much communt traffic:

Up early to make breakfast and his own lunch. Off to work by 3:30AM,
taking I8 west toward San Diego.
Gets into work by 7:30 and leaves at 4:30, getting home before 9PM.

That car should be barely broken in by the time it hits 200,000 miles!

Conversley, on Car Talk today, some woman who lives 1 1/2 miles from
work and comes home for lunch asked if her boyfriend was right when he
said that her car usage bad for the it!

 Wow, I pity that first guy,what a lifestyle,I couldn't do it.
I work 12 hour shifts, three on and three off,and just commute across town(15
min)and I find that hard some days.

I turned down my only chance to work for a Studebaker dealer because it
would have meant a 30 mile commute each way, or a move.

That's more than 8 hours a day on the road. With 8 hours work that
doesn't leave much time for any other kind of life.
I can't imagine any house that would be worth it.

 That's what I thought, too.
"All I know is what I read in the paper."
Maybe he said that long to avoid admitting to speeding.
Maybe he was exagerating for some other reason.
Maybe the reporter jazzed up the story a bit.

Anyhow, that will be a good car to own i9n a year or two.

Weird, Ellen does the 3 day 12 hour
shifts at the hospital, evey fourth week
she has to work an extra day. She is
getting totally burned out rom it, big
time. Getting up and going to work is
not the problem, but its the end of the
day. She never knows wen she will get
out each night.

She can walk in the door here in a
window between 7:45 and 8:45 depeding
if the next shift shows up on time. If
they git new admssioons ir discharges.

Its not easy. On the other hand,
working rom th eehouse really sucks, you
don't know when to shut it down, since
your business is in front of you, you
cannot walk around it, you get an urge
to finish it.

Which ever method you choose it rough.

Except for Navy time and 6 months at UTC, I've never lived more than 20
minutes from work.
UTC odd hours made for an easy commute, though.

When I went to college I commuted, when
I got my fisrt job after graduation I
commuted, both via commuter railroad.
When I joined CBS it was diffficult to
commute by train as I was over at the
Broadcast Center. So I bouht m first
car. I peddeled my way to work every
morning, Neutral, 1st gear, neutral,
first gear. it was horrible, only on the
way home at night could I actually get
into 2nd and third was a gift rom te Gods.

Then went I went over to Pepsi, my house
was so close, the car never really
warmed up by the time I got to work.
