Nate. As you know, there are glass vendors out there that likely cut
a great product. I did notice when in York, that the glass Phillips
sells does not have the correct "etched" logo in the bottom corner.
These logos are copyrighted. The reason I bring this up is I found a
glass company to cut me some vent windows about 3 or 4 years ago and
they have the license to put those logos on. The price seemed
reasonable to me at the time, although I can't remember what is was.
The logo are different between tinted and clear glass. If you need
this sort of correctness, I could find the name of the company for you.
(The info is in a binder somewhere.) BTU, they have the factory
dimentions for cutting the glass. Anyway, I hope this helps.
Respectfully, Don C.

P.S. I'm the guy that bought the 2 steering wheels from you in York
'03 and at this past York, ask you about how to re-wire the front and
rear light assemblies.

Don,

thanks for the info. I was aware that the repro glass didn't have the
logos in it, but this car is so completely, totally wrong that it's not
worth going to the effort of getting the logos etched unless the price
is comparable. (this is actually a Good Thing, as I have a whole mess
of vintage-looking accessories like gauges, engine dress-up, etc. that
need to go on it, also a Ted Harbit cam, aluminum timing gear, you get
the idea. A 4- or 5-speed tranny may be in this car's future if I keep
it long enough.)

Anyway, in this case I'd prefer to get complete used assemblies as the
"track" for the side window is a little bent, and the vent window
*glass* is actually OK just the bottom pivot is busted. But if you come
across that info you may want to post it as I'm sure someone else doing
a more correct resto would be interested. I may end up having to get
repro glass anyway as I've had several people offer me clear glass but
not tinted (car has factory full tint all the way around, and it's also
painted completely black, so...)

Did you get a repro wheel from the Schrocks? How did it turn out?

Nate, the Schrocks Bro. steering wheel is outstanding. The cost is a
little steep, but when you consider the quality, I think it is worth
it.

In terms of the broken pivot in your vent windows, Bill Fennessy in
Tennessee, has the pivots, both right and left sided and they are NOS.
I bought a left one from him in the fall for about $20 or $25 dollars.
He stated at the time that rivoting them in can be a little difficult
due to the channel being somewhat tight to manuver in. As you can
probably tell, I have not tried to do this yet as lots of other work on
my car needs to be done first. He also stated the indeed there are
right and left sided pivots and the differences in them are extremely
subtle and it deals with the angle of the pivot as it attaches to its
base anchor footing (sic)- the part that requires 2 rivots to hold it
on. I hope this info may help you. BTW, Bill F. was vending at SASCO
at last year's swap meet and of course, this year's is only a few weeks
away. Respectfully, Don C.

Hmm, I had no idea that the vent windows were repairable. I guess I
will have to weigh the cost of replacement glass (as I assume I would
have to remove the glass to do it, therefore it would be silly not to
get new, perfect glass) against the cost (and lack of messing around)
of finding "good used" units. thanks again for the help and I'll be
sure to talk to Bill F. at SB.

Have fun....
Riveting the posts on isn't too bad.. I have an old chisel that I ground
the head to fit in the channel snugly. I drilled a recess in the top to
hold the (flat)rivet head in position while I hammer the outside to
secure the post. The "hard" one to do is the lower rivet, because you
need a pretty wide vice to hold the chisel and still be out of the way
of the frame.

The glass is easy to remove, but somewhat difficult to reinstall. The
new glass setting rubber is thicker, and has a small "bead" on the
flaps. making it not sit in the channel as deep.

I'll see if I can get some pics of this at the shop today...
