 I have an 01 Olds Aurora with the Northstar V-8. It pings when fully at
operating temperature at low RPM acceleration. ((or when stepping on the
gas before the RPM's get high)Once it downshifts it won't ping.
I can hear it echo off of the traffic beside me. They tried new rings and
valve seals but didn't work. Gave me a different engine and still pings
even with high octane gas. Could the computer (only thing not replaced-I
think) be making this new engine ping? I use 87, 89, 93 octane and it
doesn't help although the higher octane takes some of it away.
After a double de carb or when the engine was replaced It would always be
fine for the first 1500 miles and then gradually worsens. As it worsens
gas mileage decreases and oil consumption goes way up. This is not normal!
Help.
