ok for all of you people who think that atf +3 is not dexron with mercon
think again...all transmissions up to 1997 use dexron 3 with mercon... some
imported i.e jag bmw audi mercedes so on use specific transmission fluids
that resemble a 5 w 30 motor oil...after 1998 dexron with mercon 5 is
required or harsh engagements can occor as well as erratic or sloppy shift
patterns. normally if you look on the end of the dipstick for the trans it
will tell you what atf isrequired for the car... ASE certified transmission
tech dont buy a neww computer for your car repair it ask me

My 1991 3000GT 4-speed electronic transaxle was manufactured for Mitsubishi
by Chrysler (the same drive train was used in the Dodge Stealth). This
vehicle came from the factory with Chrysler ATF+3. Based on what I have
heard, use of Dexron, or any other non ATF+3 or ATF+4 fluids can/will cause
sluggish shifts and torque converter shudder which can lead to pre-mature
transmission failure. In my case, I've used the Chrysler fluid and filter
for all fluid changes since I did not want to pay for a transmission
rebuild.
