Tire Question GS

Ben 27 April 2005 13:20:44
My GS Originally came with 215/60/16s and I bought 17X8 Lexus wheels for
summer... In order to maintain the same diameter, the closest tire is 215-
55-17... Does anyone know if that width tire would look normal or be too
thin? Thoughts?

Thanks

The optional 17" wheels on the GS come with 235/45/17. You may want
to try that instead.

although you are trying to stay as close to original tire size diameter as
possible i recommend you have the cars computer updated to the new 17 inch
rims this way you can choose what size tire you want...failure to have the
ecu reprogrammed could cause catostaufic transmission failure. computer
controlled transmissions are calibrated to tire size of the vehicle< I know
i have heard it all , i changed my tires to bigger rims and never had a
problem>but i see this problem on a weekly basis in the transmission shop i
work in.we run 50-70 cars a week and see this problem in many vehicles..most
of the time you only notice a small change in the speedometer reading but in
truth you dont see the difference in wheel spin and shift point timing. tire
changers beware.....

Your new tires are only .587% taller for overall diameter - this is a "plus
one" increase.
Your rubber will look .43 inches shorter.
If you r speedo says 65mph you would really be going 65.38 mph

This is all based on the mathematics, but rarely do manufactures stick to
exacting numbers, so your combo might be a little taller, a little shorter
or dead on.

Looks-wise, only you will notice it
Enjoy
