93 Rodeo Bad Slave Cylinder?

Bob M 9 April 2005 20:28:37
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me. I have a 1993 Isuzu
Rodeo 4x4 with the 3.2l V6 and 5 speed manual. Vehicle has 117,000
miles. It has run great the 2 years that I've owned it.
The other day I was driving and accelerated from a stop. As I was
upshifting into 3rd gear the clutch pedal would not release. In other
words my shift was fine and the clutch pedal depressed normally but got
stuck and would not spring back when I took my foot off the clutch
pedal. I then put the shifter into neutral and coasted into a parking
lot and stopped. I turned the vehicle off and checked the clutch fluid.
The master cylinder was dry. Let me add that the fuid level was fine
when I checked everything the day before.
So I manually pulled the clutch pedal back out and topped off the
master cylinder. Now the clutch pedal will only depress half way. The
pedal becomes very hard to push in. If I try to start the vehicle it
lurches forward slightly as if it's in gear even though the shifter is
in neutral. The vehicle will not start.
The guy at Auto Zone said the clutch slave cylinder is shot. Has
anyone else had this problem and if so was it the slave cylinder? I also
notice the vehicle has a clutch damper cylinder. Is it possible this
might be bad?
I towed the vehicle to a mechanic but he wanted the full price of a
clutch replacement ($1500) before he could tell me what was wrong. He
said he needed to take out the old clutch first before he knew what was
wrong. I'm thinking it might not be the clutch, just one of the
cylinders. There was so prior sign of any problem with the clutch prior
to this. Can anyone help please?
