Shor-T 27 April 2005 06:58:09
i recently bought the above caddi i had a problem where the engine
wouldnt turn over so i replaced the starter it wasnt the problem so i
had it given a tune up when the spark plugs were taken out they
dripped with gas so after tune up it started right up but was running
rich in gas diagnostic codes said replace idle control sensor (was
replaced and adjusted), an the map sensor so i did it along with an
oil change i guess oil smelled of gas also. cadi ran fine for a day or
two then ran rich again next day it wouldnt turn over so again i
replaced spark plugs they dripped with gas once again once replaced
started right up mechanic said replace the ecm computer did that and
had the sensors checked mechanic said sensors were putting out fine
still running rich smell of gas but now i notice what i thought was
white smoke from the tailpipe mechanic says its blue smoke and still
running rich... HELP PLEASE....... :( :x :x :x

Blue Smoke - means valves are going bad the engine may need to be
rebuilt if it is smoking contantly. The rich fuel could probably be 2
things.
1 - one of the fuel injectors selinoid is constantly open and gas is
constantly spraying out.
2. - Fuel injector regulator thats sits next to the fuel rail is stuck
wide open and that could be another cause as well. It regulates the
fuel.

the only time i see alot of the smoke is when i press on the gas, i
bought the car from my cousin and he said that he had the fuel
injectors all replaced just last year and a mechanic said that he
checked the fuel regulator and it tested fine... maybe he was wrong,
i’ll try to have it rechecked... but how do i check the fuel
injectors? and if one is bad, how do i tell which one it is?
and are the valves expensive to fix?

It would be most unusual for all the injectors to have a problem at
once. It sounds like the fuel pressure regulator may be bad,
regardless of what the mechanic said. The FPR on the 4.9 is attached
to the fuel rail and is located near the throttle body. It has a short
length of vacuum hose running to it from the throttle body. With the
engine running, remove the vac line where it attaches to the FPR and
look for any drips of gas either in the hose or on the vacuum port on
the FPR. There should be no drips. If there are drips the FPR is bad
and must be replaced.
