90 Deville : Adding heavy duty shocks or springs???

Chuckyg 21 April 2005 18:22:51
I have a 89 Coupe Deville with 71K on it. Everything is sound but the rear
end. It sits a little low. NOt that that but I have a class 2 hitch for a
small trailer that I use sometimes. Is it possible to bypass the air ride
and add bigger springs to have the back sit up a little higher? Thanks
-Chuck

The air shocks should handle the problem. The car should only sit low when
parked with the engine off. If it sits low after running for a minute or
two could be the leveling switch needs adjustment.

Had an 87 DeVille, and had quite a bit of trouble with the leveling
system; from switch problems to leaky bags. I changed the air shocks,
switch, and then picked up a set of Moog "Cargo-coils", for not a
lot of $$. These springs are intended to give you normal ride height,
but take more weight due to the design of the spring. About half of
the coils are spaced normally to give good ride, but the rest are much
closer, to take weight. These worked absolutely great, and could have
disabled the leveling system altogether once I got the springs in.
Used them in an old Cutlass wagon with the same success.
