| '03 A4 Quattro Clutch Wear battle with dealership "Possible Abuse" - please help Guest 22:31:46 |
| | I currently have 38,000 miles on my 03 A4 Quattro and noticed that my clutch is slipping when I change gears. Basically my RPMs are way too high for my acceleration and speed when I shift into gear. I've also noticed that it seems to stick a little when I shift into 2nd gear. The realease point is extremely high as well. If the mechanic noticed that the release point seemed different.
The dealership says that if the wear is due to abuse then I will have to pay a minimum of $500 just for them to look at the clutch and $2300!!! to replace it. My car is under warranty and I think this is bullsh$t. I do not drop my clutch at rpms, constantly keep it in engaged, nor do I race it all the time. I live in Atlanta with terrible traffic and have to shift a lot in bumper to bumper traffic and I shift slowly for smooth shifts but am wondering if that is actually worse for the clutch than quick jerky shifts since the clutch is engaged longer. They also tried to tell me that because I have 19" RS6 wheels that the circumfrence and weight of the new wheel is similar to "towing a boat" which is more stressful on the clutch. Am i wrong or is the diameter the same since the profile of the tire is smaller to compensate for the bigger wheel. Also, what added weight? I know he can't possibly mean actual lbs added to the car.
Finally they said abuse can be identified by rippped rivets, excessive hot spots, and uneven wear on the clutch. Can anyone verify that this can identify abuse?? Is there a difference in how the clutch looks based on whether I'm racing the car or shifting much more than normal due to traffic conditions? Can anyone give me any information to form a solid argument with them? I am not a mechanic but I refuse to be taken advantage of by these dealerships any longer

| REVO Technik etc. Jim Pills 22:21:41 |
| | Sorry, this has probably been discussed to death in here but... I'm a noob, what can I say?
Anyway, my bro was just nagging me to look up mod-chips for my 2001 A4 Avant 1.8T Sport "for a laugh" and I stumbled across the Revo stuff which appears to be a soft-mod as opposed to actual chipping.
Anyone know if this is any good and can it cause damage to the car?
I've also seen these much cheaper booster control things:

Any info/experience of this sort of cheapie?
Cheers!

| 80 2.0 16V sounds like a diesel Nealdc 12:47:14 |
| | My apologies - I just posted this elsewhere and it occurred to me it would be better here...
Can anyone help me here...
I have an 80 16V 2.0 that has done 130k-ish miles and quite frankly sounds like a diesel. Not only when it starts (I know about hydraulic tappets needing to get up to pressure etc), but all the time.
Is it fixable with an oil/filter change? Does it sounds like it needs new tappets? Or is the whole thing about to go up in smoke?
Timing belt needs changing (and is about to be done). Chain need changing too maybe?

| 2000 A4 Symphony: cd eject switch does not work Thomas G. Marshall 04:23:40 |
| | The dealership looked at my radio which had recently refused to release a cd.
They disconnected the power, reconnected it, and the cd ejected automatically.
So it appears at least at a first approximation that the problem is with the eject switch itself, which is what they said it is. Of course it could be a deeper error in the circuitry, but there is no real way to know.
Is replacing the switch itself something that can be done easily?

| 94 S4 crank but no start Guest 01:08:38 |
| | Hello, Background: 1994 S4, 169K. Fully serviced, all belts, pumps, fluids, plugs, filters, you-name-its been done. Car is mechanically and (was) electronically up to date and perfect. TAP 1+ chipset, forge BOV, cold air intake, no kitties. Ok, with that knowledge... The other day, the check engine light came on for the first time while driving . I turned car off to see if it would reset the light and the car wouldn't restart. It cranks but will not fire. I came back about 4 hrs. later and the car fired right up so I drove it home. On the way home the light came. I noticed an immediate lack of power, but the car did not stall out. The light went out a bit later. When arriving home I turned off car and it would not restart. Again, crank but no fire. I pulled the codes from it crossing the A1 and B1 connectors. Codes were: 2113 2114 2111 2324 I understand that it will throw the Cam sensor code if the engine is not running so I cannot tell if this is the culprit but I am leaning in that direction. Any advice or past cam sensor experience? Thanks, Nate

| 2002 A4 tdi130 avant shuddering noise from engine 110K miles Brick-It 12:29:53 |
| | When the engine is revved, on the downward cycle the is what can only be described as a shuddering noise, even at idle, more prominent when the engine is warm. Audi main dealer relpaced timing belt / tensioners, aux drive belt and tensioner - problem still there. This problem has been there since i bought it a year ago and although it does not affect performance it is annoying. Audi dealer advised to book it in for a day to investigate, i don't want to remortgage my house to pay for an "EXPERT" to have a poke around for a day. Maybe somebody else has had this problem. Thanx.

When coming to a stop, the pedal pressure starts out fine, but eventually goes almost to the floor.
I have bled the brakes, It helped. I will bleed them again.
But I believe there is a hidden problem within the hydraulic system.
Any tips would be appreciated !

I've an Audi A4 Avant tdi sport and the rear brake light has just gone. I've had a look at how to replace the bulb in the manual, which suggest I take it to a Audi mechanic, this seems a little extravegant to just replace a buld... can any one please advise me on the best way and how to get into the rear lights. Many thanks. Hanx28 Here is the proceedure step by step (with photos):

| '87 5000 engine hood gas strut replacement secrets/tips? Winston 00:12:10 |
| | Hi...I'm replacing the gas struts that (don't) hold the engine hood up in my '87 5000 QT wagon...and I can't seem to get the pins out that hold the tops of the struts in place.
They're basically like cotter pinned sleeves....the clips on the inboard ends of the sleeves came off easily, but the sleeves themselves, which pass through the top strut hole and go through a flange spot-welded to the underside of the hood are completely resistant to being tapped/pushed/turned out.
In fact, with the struts unhooked from the bottom at the inner fender lips, lifting the strut turns the sleeve, which suggests the sleeves are either corroded (I've sprayed them liberally, though they don't look rusty) or somehow attached/clipped/slotted to the sleeves in a way I can't see or figure out.
I replaced the rear hatch struts in a few minutes, but the engine hood struts have me stumped.
Am I missing some Secret of German Engineering here?
Help!
Thanks Winston

| Is suspension covered in audi certified preowned warranty? Wolverine 01:29:21 |
| | Hello,
I got a certifed pre-owned audi. Recently, I started to feel a difference in the steering wheel. It twitches when I turn it sometimes. I'm thinking is it may be related to the suspensions.
Does anyone know if the suspension is covered in audi certified preowned warranty if it needs replacement?
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

| strange rattle/gurgle/cough solved, plus question about motor mounts Kls 05:40:39 |
| | strange rattle/gurgle/cough Only 1 message in topic - view as tree I posted the below three months ago, and no one replied. I recently had the car in for oil change, etc., and after getting the lower front control arm replaced on the passenger side, the sensation was still there. The independent mechanic determined this to be caused by a failing motor mount on the driver's front side. So, for those of you who are very sensitive to your car's vibrations, this could be one possible cause of strange sensations.
My question now is: when the mechanics are in there replacing this motor mount, what else should I have them check on this 98.5 A4Q 2.8 (98k miles)?
Also, I'm annoyed they didn't diagnose this when they did the control arms, and they charged me a diagnostic fee that I think I will challenge on the grounds that not one week after they did the control arm work, I brought back the car for them to look at again. What's the group's thought on this? I feel I should not have to pay this diagnostic fee when I specifically brought in the car complaining about strange vibrations, and they had the car for 24 hours.

My 1998.5 A4 2.8 Quattro car is exhibiting a new sound that I can't really describe. It doesn't happen consistently: it's a strange little rattle that ONLY happens when I'm engaging the car in first gear from a dead stop and am doing so very slowly and gently, seems more prominent when the car is cold. Seems to do it while I'm engaging the clutch and immediately after first gear is fully engaged. The car has gone 95k miles, so what could be creating this noise? Could it be an exhaust issue? The car drives great, no loss of power, no weird gear shifts or clutch problems.
