replacement of my fuel pump or filter Mrd 19:36:52
I recently started having problems with my 1988 Audi 80 quattro. Until
last week, I had never had a problem with it. Aftter returning from
leave, my wife and I were driving the car - when it just died while
running. I tried several times to re-start it, but it didn't start.
Twenty minutes later it started without a problem. I thought it was
BAD gas, so I added some dry gas to my fuel --- it ran fine for
several days. However, yesterday the car stopped again, I had it
towed home and left it in my garage for the last several days .... ony
now it won't start at all.

I'm not sure whether it is the fuel pump, fuel pump relay or the fuel
filter. I have just purchased a new fuel filter, but; I'm looking for
help with this problem. In addition I'm not sure of how to replacement
the fuel pump ... if in fact it is the problem. I have heard that the
fuel pump on the 1988 a80 quattro is submerged in the gas tank.

Can anyone help me with this problem:

Tks in advance

A4 headlamp multiplug removal Guest 04:29:38
How do you remove the multiplug off the A4 headlamp (2002 model) I can
take out the headlamp but cant disconnect the multiplug!!! how?

I have replaced the dipped H7's for Osram Xenons ( worked a treat in my
V70) but there is not much difference still poor light! I am thinking
of replacing them with 80W bulbs to see if they are any better ( I know
they aren not legal) but I need better dipped lights as they let an
otherwise exellent car down.

Ceramic vs semi mettalic pads Mr Gadget 22:05:28
Ceramic: These are composed of ceramic fibers, nonferrous filler
materials, bonding agents, and possibly small amounts of metal. Lighter
in color and more expensive than other brake pads, ceramic pads are
cleaner and quieter, and offer excellent braking characteristics
without wearing down the rotors.

I have heard from some other sources (distributors for performance car
parts) that the clients that typically buy speed parts say that the
ceramic pads actually wear the rotors worse than semi-mettallic and
have worse brake fade under heavy use conditions. They say the brake
dust just looks like it is less since the dust is a lighter color.

Does anyone have any experiance on the 2000 a4 1.8T (non quattro) with
vented/slotted rotors between using ceramic or semi-mettalic pads?

2000 A4 Avant Timing belt etc? Bogart Lloy 18:42:18
OK, the babe is due for her 60K once-over,
and, I'd think, the timing belt, water pump,
tensioner... (and what else?) It was built in
1999 -- so the 5 years criterion is past due.

If I do it all at the same time, at the dealer,
should there be any reductions in the 60K
maintenance, as a result of doing the other
work?

Or is it just time to trade for something newer?
(Actually, I'm pretty happy with the veek, and
do mostly local, low-stress driving.)

Any thoughts appreciated.

Replacing headlight bulb on 2002 A4 1.8T Quattro David McCracken 00:16:25
 Hi Everyone,

The front left headlight (lowbeam) has burnt out on my 2002 A4 1.8T Quattro.
The dealer wants 75 to 80 bucks to replace the bulb (part is around 20 plus
30 minutes of time...). This seems a little excessive to replace a bulb. I
am wondering how easy it is to replace it myself (are any special tools
required?). Is it obvious how to do it?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Dave

Removal of A4 Glovebox special tool??? Guest 17:55:22
Hi, i'm trying to remove my 2002 A4 glovebox so I can see if the cable
for a CD changer is fitted there, the car has the basic Navigation unit
in the boot so no CD changer. I want to fit a Phatnoise to the car, so
need to knoe if the changer cable is in the glove (I suspect) if its in
the Glove I think I need the square typ plug for the VW Phatnoise or if
its in the boot I need the Audi one

looking at the glove it seems as if I need a special tool as the heads
of the screws are not of any type I have seen !!! is there a tool I can
get to remove it?

Cheers for any help - anyone fitted a phatnoise to an A4??

A8 backlight on instrument cluster Alan Sung 05:18:03
I just had my instrument cluster replaced on my 2000 A8. When the car is on,
but the head lights are off, should the speedometer, gas gauge, temperature
gauge and tachometer be back lit? Something definitely seems different than
before but the dealership claims that it should not be back lit. The only
part that is illuminated is the center rectangle where the NAV displays. It
does backlight when you turn the headlights on.

'99 A6 rear license plate bracket? Andy 04:24:20
'99 audi A6 Avant. I asked earlier w/ no response but am getting frustrated
w/ not being able to mount a dang rear license plate. I just bought the car
and there are 3(out of 4) screws in the black plastic that will not unscrew,
the base behind the plastic spins. I have tried putting a slotted
screwdriver under the head of the screw while unscrewing them w/ no luck.
The 4th screw is behind the plastic I believe as the plastic appears broken
out in the area where it should be and I can hear something rattling around
when shutting the hatch.
My question is...Do I access the area behind the black plastic by removing
the inner panel on the hatch? Any BTDT?
Thanx in advance,
Andy

Re: Changing a lightbulb Steve Sears 05:48:27
 Rob,
I believe that your first step should be to get an owner's manual for the
car - it's useful for more than just warnings about drinking windshield
washer fluid. You can pick a manual up at the dealer's, or on eBay, or
through an obliging person on Audiworld or a local club.
It would be advisable to replace both headlight bulbs at the same time,
since you'll find that the other bulb will fail shortly after you install
the new bulb (I'm told that it has something to do with resistance, age,
etc., but I believe that it's jealousy)

World record for Audi cam belt mileage? Robert 23:50:46
 Hi all,

I've seen countless threads here about squashed valves on the A4 1,8T
(and other Audi models) due to cam belt failure, and the possible need
to change the belt sooner than Audi recommend.

I'd like to ask a question in the opposite direction:

What is the *longest* mileage that you have dared let your Audi go
before getting the belt changed?

(I can't exactly say I'm in the running to win - I chickened out and got
mine done today, after 113 000 km, given the recommended interval in my
car's case, of 120 000 km)

A3 reliability? Logan Shaw 23:32:54
 Hi everyone,

I'm about to ditch my Toyota with 175,000 miles on it and buy a new car.
The 2006 Audi A3 is one of three finalists, and I love almost everything
about it except for one thing: I have some doubts about reliability.
It's not that I *know* it's going to be bad. In fact, part of the
problem is that (it being a new model, in the US), I can't find ANY
data about reliability. And several other Audis have gotten fairly
bad ratings from Consumer Reports in the last few years. Although
CR does say reliability on the A4 has improved in the last few years.

So, does anyone know of any kind of hard data on reliability or initial
quality or anything like that on the A3? Failing that, what about
subjective opinions? One thing I'm having a hard time with is
understanding what it means when Consumer Reports rates a car as
"below average" reliability. Does that mean I'll be paying slightly
more on repairs than I would with (say) an Acura[1], or does it mean
I'll be paying double or triple? What are people's general opinions
of late-model Audi reliability compared to other cars?

- Logan

[1] The other finalists in my decision-making process are the Acura
TL and the Infiniti G35. Neither has half the personality of
the A3, but you see I have this Japanese car right now, and it
has 175,000 miles on it and is still going strong, and...

blend down if it's dark, so do my existing mirrors... In Denmark the
official dealer wants about 2500$ for these, so i though about e-bay ect.

A3: Changing a lightbulb RobP 23:27:55
 Hi

Got a A3 1.8T 2001 with one headlight dead.

I thought I'd try and replace it myself, but am just wondering if anyone can
give me any tips or point me towards any online docs.

I'm not entirely sure if you change the bulb from the front or from behind.

If it's from the front, I guess I have to get the headlight cover off
somehow?

I looked at the rear of the headlamps and saw some cover that comes off, but
it didn't look to me like there was space to take a bulb out from that side.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

A4 alignment issues Locu 17:53:24
 Good Morning Audi Fans,

I recently purchased a '02 Audi A4. About a week after I got it I
noticed it pulling to the right slightly, which it may have done from
the get-go but I just didn't notice. I brought it to the dealer who
aligned it which made it feel quite a bit better, but a week later it
was pulling to the right again.

Back to the dealer again, and this time their machine broke, so they
couldn't finish the alignment.

Now, Les Schwab, a large tire company around here who does alignments
says they can't align my car because it has the sports suspension.
Anyone know what this is about?

Anyone have similar recurring alignment issues or know what that may be
caused from? I'm relatively certain the car has been in no accidents.
There is absolutely no evidence of that.

Re: 99 A6 2.8 CAM Adjuster Repair - Update Dale Webler 10:52:20
So the Audi place fixed the CAM adjuster oil problem; however, they did not
fix the entire oil problem. Seems to be leaking oil from the front left
portion of the engine as well. Took the car over to the local oil change
place and had them remove the shroud cover from the bottom and went
underneath the car to take a look. Oil coming down from the vicinity of
where the dip stick meets the engine but lower. Looks like there might be
an oil cooler in that general area but lower, behind the bumper. Looks like
high pressure hose in the area.. Could it be cracks in the hose or possibly
a weak clamp?

Removing speak grill Matt 00:23:34
I have a 1999 A3 and one of the rear speakers has developed a fault.

I would like to remove the speaker grill to see if there is a loose wire but
I cannot see how it comes off.

There doesn't appear to be any screws or anywhere to insert the head of a
screwdriver to prize it open and the grill is flush with the trim. I am wary
of applying too much force in case I damage it.

How do you remove these speaker grills?
