| Selenia Racing oil Gt 17:23:01 |
| | Does I really need the Selenia Racing oil in the 2.0 JTS engine or is normal 10w40 (GTX or whatever) OK? The manual says Selenia Racing 10w60, but the only place I can get oil of that weight is the Alfa garage and hard for me to get to during working hours. On top of that, it is significantly more expensive than normal oil.

When I > disconnect the motor to the windscreen jets and try the headlamp ones > there is no sound. If anyone has experience of this fault I would > appreciate some help.>
Cheers> Michael I had this problem recently on my 156 2.0l year 2000. both my screen washers and headlight washers failed. The headlamp washers had probably failed long before I noticed them not working when checking the screen washers.
The headlamp washers turned out to be the fuse. To prove that it's not the pump; swap the connectors from the screen pump onto the headlamp pump; they should then work. Replace the fuse.
I replaced the pump in an attempt to fix my screen washers. It was making a noise but no liquid came out of the jets. The Alfa/Fiat pump cost me Ј22 and turned out to be unnecessary. The real cause of the problem was the "T" piece that splits the flow to the two jets. Like most things Alfa it's a bit unusual. It has a rubber diaphram inside and this had distorted or perished and wasn't letting any liquid through.Removing the rubber bit didn't make it work either
I couldn't get an Alfa replacement as it was Christmas holidays and everywhere was closed. I replaced it with bog standard plastic "T" piece from the local car shop and it works fine.
On mine the fuse for the headlamp washer pump is in the fuse box behind the trim panel by your right knee.

| 156 Brake/Clutch fluid reservoir. Hughes. 21:30:51 |
| | My clutch is currently dysfunctional due to a leak from the slave cylinder seal (in)conveniently located in the gearbox, what confuses me is that the brakes still work fine, even though both systems run from the same reservoir.
Brake pedal has plenty of pressure, but the clutch pedal goes to the floor and stays there. What sorcery is this?

| 156 Aircon Compressor Mode Zathras 20:46:29 |
| | On the single zone A/C in a 156, I seem to remember that you can change what happens when you press the button that activates/deactivates the compressor. IIRC, in one mode, the 'compressor switch' remembers it's setting when the ignition is turned off and in the other, it turns the compressor on every time the ignition is turned on regardless of the previous setting. I think there are other differences too.
IIRC, someone here provided details of how to switch from one mode to the other. As my searching revealed nothing, anyone remember/know how to do it?

| Someone please stop this madness..... SteveH 13:33:24 |
| | I've had enough, I'm getting *very* angry now.
There's someone on ebay, going by the name of 'italianspares' who seems to be on a mission to buy *every* 75 so he can break them for spares.
I'm not joking, either. A 75 comes up for sale, he bids. He wins, he breaks.
He's responsible for 5 or 6 very decent 75s being removed from our roads over the last year or so.
Someone needs to stop him now, before they're all gone

| It was a shed anyway SteveH 12:25:35 |
| | The 156 I ended up going to look at.
Scuffed bumpers with peeling laquer. Dented and scratched sides. Bald front tyres.
Finally, stupidly spaced numberplate:
W6 14N J.R.
(Yes, he'd used the full-stops, too)
I took all of 60 seconds to walk away, even when the salesman appeared with the keys.

| punch marks on 526/A engine Dino Lucci 23:41:30 |
| | I own a Giulia Gt Junior 1600, year 1975. I had to open the engine (a brass gone) and my cylinder block was in really bad conditions. A lot of corrosion, the seal with the Barrels was obtained using mastic. So I had to find a new block. I bought one at a pretty good price, I don't know in the other country but in Italy seams to be a good price 500ВЂ... The conditions of the new block are excellent but something doesn't convince me. The punch mark use a different font, fatter on the new one (mine is slimmer), use a separation asterisk instead of a star (on mine old one). So, back home I found an old article on "Ruoteclassiche" June 1993 talking about the fake Giulietta Sanesi restaured at that time, and one of the point to prove the not autenticity of the car was the font used for the punch mark. In that case was on the body but I think is similar. Anybody knows in which period were in use this two kinds of mark? Thanks, Dino

| Alfa Romeo 156 1.8 Twin Spark Lights Problem Ivo via CarKB.com 23:27:13 |
| | I have a problem with my lights some of the lamps lights very very low (the ones on the back that are on the same phisical lamp as the STOP light) and it lights like that always ... even with the engine turned off and the keyes removed. Also when i start the front lights and remove that lamp and insert it again it works fine but when I turn off the lights off and on again it does not want to start (the lamp) some people told me this could be a problem with the lights controler (if there is any?!) but I don't know where to find it and I am not sure is this the problem! Please share some information with me if you have any about that stupid problem!

| immobiliser problems on 156 Canonian 22:22:14 |
| | Well, thats typical Alfa .... they say.
6 monts ago I experienced the first problems with my keycode / immobiliser on my 1998 156-1.8. It didn't function anymore, but the amber coloured 'code' LED on display didn't lit up either. Starting with the emergency procedure however did help me. After a few days, it dissapeared and never came back ... untill this morning! Again the same problems. Now, after some local rides and a driving for more than an hour this afternoon, suddenly the amber 'code key' LED lits up, saying that the module is in error. 30 minutes later I arrived at my final destination. After switching of the engine, I tried to start the engine again. Surprise - surprise, no keycode problems anymore.
Weird!!! No logic thoughts on what might be wrong other than a very random error. Anybody any idea how to inspect (visual) the immobiliser and antenna??? I understand that the antenna must be near the keyinsert en immobiliser near the fuse section in the cabine. I tried to see / dismount them a few months ago, but with no result. What are the tips & tricks on this ???

| 91 164L questions Peter 22:25:28 |
| | Hi,
I am in the process of switching a 3.0 bottom end, and have a few questions on the rear head, does the oil pump drive gear need to be disconected, if so where is the access.
where are the match marks on the cam gears, I can not see any.
After I roll the engine forward and remove the rear head is there clearance to rmove the engine without the transmision (automatic)
Also none of the features on my power seats work, the fuse is good, is there any other common failure point for these.
I do not have the time or money to put in to the car disk right now, so any help will be apreciated.

| V6 24v belt change interval SteveH 19:30:37 |
| | Am I right in thinking that you need to do these every 36k miles?
I'm looking at a 164 24v at the moment, but it's done 104k miles, with the last change at 60k miles.
Should I be budgeting for a change ASAP?
If so, it's not worth it..... 'cos I've seen one for 300 quid more that's just had the belts done.
