| | Hello,
I'm looking to get a 147 and spending about 8k...Anything to watch for especially ? It's been 20 years since I owned an Alfa...(Sud)...
Not bothered about the No. of doors, would prefer leather & alloys, not sure about the engines, my wife had a 2.3 Saab 900S and wants something with some power, is the 1.6 TS up to it ?
Cheers.

| Tuning boxer twin Weber 40 IDFs myself - Easy? Possible? Unwise? Regan 00:31:39 |
| | With my coolant problems out of the way (thankyou everybody for your advice) and my new flexible brake lines ordered the only thing left to do for the contrГґle technique (french MOT) is the emission levels which were at 7.6% CO (pass is at 3.5%).
I've just adjusted the timing (was a degree or two retarded since I had to remove the distributor to replace the clutch slave cylinder) but I'm sure the carbs aren't set up quite right yet. I had them balanced a couple of years ago but I'd rather not shell out another ВЈ70 just to get it through the CT as the car runs very well, not lumpy or lacking in power and I still get that incredibly satisfying surge of torque at about 3000 rpm.
Since the car is running cooler would it be wise to simply make the mixture a bit leaner for actual test? Do I need any special equipment to balance them properly?

| 147 Motor control system failure Chris Neale 18:55:57 |
| | Help!!! Hope someone can, my 147 has just started giving a іMotor Control System FailureІ when we first start the car, it stays on for only a couple of seconds then disappears. My local Alfa dealership have checked it over and say they don№t know why it is doing it as the log in it№s little black box has registered no faults. They№ve also run something that checks the connections and apparently no faults there either. As the alarm doesn№t stay on, they think there is nothing to worry about and their only solution is to replace the ECU (over Ј400) and they also say as they are not sure what is the problem, this is just a stab in the dark and may not work. Any suggestions as to what may be causing this and how to rectify would be gratefully received. Oh and yes its out of warranty.

| Alfasud Sprint 1.7QV water pump leakage Regan 02:06:04 |
| | Hello,
My (t)rusty Sprint has has just developed a coolant leak from what appears to be a core plug in the front of the water pump, although not one of my various repair manuals shows that particular model of water pump. When the engine is hot there's a fast drip, about an eggcupful a minute and even when cold there's still some seepage. There's no play in the pump shaft/pulley so I'm loathed to replace the entire thing, does anyone know if there's a way of fixing/bodging a leaky core plug, maybe some sort of sealant or glue? It's my only car and parts are scarce here in rural france so I'm anxious to keep it running until I can find a more permanent solution.
I have most common workshop tools; socket set, pullers, etc. and am reasonably competent with a spanner (replacing driveshafts, cambelts, shock absorbers) so any advice would be much appreciated.
I can take a photo if that would be helpful.
Thankyou for your time,
Regan

The garage takes the car out for 2 test drives and will the clutch play up? NO IT WON№T!!!!! I Get in the car to come home, 2 minutes later the clutch plays up. I put a message up on this board about the motor control blah blah blah and the thing fixes it№s self. The car№s possessed I tell you.

| | Have a look at this:
http://cgi6.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidItems&userid=dalbat007&co mpleted=1&all=1&rows=25&sort=3
It appears the seller with the 156 I was interested in is into shill bidding in a big way, so sod that.
I've reported him instead.

| 147 aircon Tony Rickard 16:48:03 |
| | My wife is complaining her 147's aircon isn't getting cold like it did (before it got hot today). Just tried it and I hear no audible click turning the aircon off and back on. I do with my 156.
Do other 147 owners hear the compressor cut in if they turn the aircon on?
It is a 2003 with dual climate control.
Also anyone with experience of Alfa's third year of warranty?
Cheers Tony

| Scottish Alfa Specialist? FrankyG 22:49:18 |
| | Hi,
I've had my 164 3.0 Lusso (133K miles) for a year and a half now, pretty much trouble free. The first MOT was pricey at over ВЈ500, and it's nearly that time again. A few weeks ago when I was changing the wing, I could see the timing belt was looking pretty tired and worn. I don't have a full history for the car (bought from a mate) so have no idea when,(or if!) the last change was.
I only paid ВЈ600 for it, already doubled that with last years MOT and the recent repairs I've had to carry out due to a drunk driver hitting me. So, assuming there's nothing major wrong at the MOT I was considering getting the timing belt done as well, as the engine seems in great condition. I have been told to expect to pay around ВЈ400 for the timing belt, can anyone confirm if that's about right? I would also appreciate any recommendations for scottish alfa garages (I'm in Glasgow but can travel) who would have the experience to do the timing belt correctly.
I really should sell this car, what with the price of fuel here in the UK..but it's soooo hard to part...!!
Thanks for any suggestions,
FrankyG

| iPod in 156 Peshwengi 22:59:56 |
| | Hi everyone,
I just bought a (late) 2002 156 1.6 Veloce, my first Alfa, and also my first car. Under the driver's seat are two cables, which I assume are power and data cables for a CD changer (it has the standard Alfa cd player in the dash). Does anyone know of any way to plumb an iPod in so that it can be controlled from the steering wheel controls?
Thanks,
James

| | But I'm being drawn towards a 166.
Just can't argue with the VFM, 99V, 75k miles, FSH, 2lt TSpark, appears fully loaded - satnav, heated seats, etc..... (might be standard, I suppose) ВЈ2295ono from a dealer, ffs!
I can't see how I could go wrong.

Obviously a pre 2004 facelift model (the 2.5 was dropped then) and the unpopular Q-System that didn't really suit the lovely V6. I guess they are going to have to give this one away. It is at half 2004 price already without a mile on the clock...

| 147 Boot Lock Timelord 12:52:59 |
| | Hello all,
The boot lock mechanism (part of the central locking system) on my 2002 1.6 Lusso 147 appears to be erm.... buggered.
After the saga of finally reaching the said part, its not pushing the catch to release the lock, does anyone know (apart from an Alfa garage) where the best place to obtain the said part. Any idea of a rough price? At the moment I cant use the boot (cant use key fob or console button).
Been scouring scrap yards in Notts with no luck so far.
Any help, as always would be appreciated.
Regards Nick
