| alfa 155 twins park 1.8 problem Saelektronik 11:52:17 |
| | Please help anyone,
I have Alfa Romeo 155 twins park 1.8 and I have a big problem. When I start the engine and go for a drive, while the engine is cold the car is suffocating (if I could say so) I mean that the car is leaping and when I stop number of revolution light down and the car is turning off. When the engine warms up he works normaly there are no effect like I said before. I went to the service and they where cleaning some pipes (don't know how to call them) where the gasoline is passing trought. Thus anyone have any idea what is happening please every help is welcome.
Thanks in advanced

| Pulling left... Gt 12:32:10 |
| | Just got 2 new tyres fitted to my 2002 156 JTS. They fitted them to the rear and put the old, partially worn tyres onto my main driving, steering and braking wheels just in time for winter (not looking for a debate on this though!), so they removed and replaced all 4 wheels during the procedure. The car now pulls left most of the time! Sometimes (maybe 25% of the time) it is fine, but most of the time it pulls left. This not worsened by breaking or accelerating (not bad balanced breaks or torque steer). I presume the tyre fitters did something wrong, or caught something, but the car is in for a service in a couple of days, so I'll get the Alfa garage to check it out - what should I ask them to check out? Wheel balance, tracking etc?... What does this sound like? I will obviously describe everything to them, but sounding remotely knowledgeable to the mechanic saves me being ripped-off!!
Thanks

| Racing Oil Ivan 14:46:50 |
| | Apart from the 5000 km change interval, are there any peculiarities as regards this oil.
I reckon it might protect the engine a bit more at higher revs, since it has 10 W 60 gradation.

| HELP - smoke ! Nc 23:02:05 |
| | All, For about 4 weeks I've been getting a ploom of smoke raising out of the bonnet between the bonnet and the driver side wing. This does not happen all of the time, but tends to be when I've been quite hard on the brakes (although when I am hard on the brakes, its because I've been hard on the engine...! so may not be due to brakes). Had the brakes stripped down by Desira this morning (they thought it was due to them overheating / ceasing), but it did it again on the way back into work.
Its been happening ever since it had the 60k service (incl new plugs and cambelt/tensioner/variator) done by Jamie in Royston. I'm passing his way tomorrow so will be dropping in for him to have a look.
Any thoughts what this might be due to ?? Smoke smells like oily burning. Could it be linked to the service - seems to be a strange coincidence that it started happening right at that time.....

Looks *far* too good to scrap - I really hope an enthusiast out there buys it. Looks a lot tidier than mine, so it shouldn't take too much to sort it.

Probably not the best choice as a Passat replacement, though.

| Independant Specialists Mike 18:06:10 |
| | I don't need one at present but should the need arise it would be nice to be aware of my local independant Alfa specialists. I'm in the Leeds area but I'm sure that others could use such information for their local area. Does anyone know if there is a directory or list available anywhere. Better to be able to check them out at leisure rather than in the panic of needing your pride & joy fixing.

| | Off to local Desira to get a new undertray fitted on my 156 2.0 - its hanging off and scrapping along the ground ! Poor thing has never had to suffer them before.... but its a bit far to Royston just for this. Surely Desira cant bugger up a simple job like this one.... ;)

| 156 tickover Mike 17:16:05 |
| | On the way to work this morning my 2000 yr. 156 2.0 TS refused to tickover. As soon as my foot left the throttle pedal the engine died. I struggled to work using nifty footwork and judicious use of the handbrake.
When I stopped to investigate in the car park I found that after waggling the throttle pedal up and down a few times everything returned to normal. Is this a 'fly by wire' throttle ? and has anyone else seen this effect. I am hoping it's just a sticky cable which some lubrication would cure. Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks, mike

| Oil Vapor Separator Cjl 14:34:23 |
| | 1989 alfa spider 2L desparately needs a new oil vapor separator ( another location in the shop manual calls it a vapor canister) Have checked all Houston local parts shops and another 5 on the web with not much luck. None that I checked even had it listed and BAP/GEON has it listed but references it as not yet available. Any guidance would be appreciated. PS I have had pretty good luck on parts from International-Auto, but not for this item.

| Recommended Dealer in East Midlands area? Steve 18:25:21 |
| | Hi
I've just moved to Warwickshire (Rugby to be exact), and I just wondered if anyone could recommend a decent dealer - Independant or Alfa, to carry out servicing on my 156.
I want to point out some body work troubles which I would want to be fixed under warranty (last chance for my S plate) - would an independant be able to tackle this?
Thanks for any help

| | I have just been quoted over Ј400 from a local garage to change the cambelt on my 156 2.0TS. This seems v. expensive as according to alfa the job should take approx 3.5 hours. Can someone let me know how much this work should cost?
Thanks Stuart

| Find me an Alfa! SteveH 21:45:56 |
| | I promised myself a shiny Alfa when I escaped my previous job.... with the new job starting in 3 weeks time, I'm now on a mission.
Trouble is, as usual, I'm too tight to spend proper money
What I'm after is a nice 164 V6 for around a grand, a decent widebody 155 for similar money. or whatever I can get in p/x for my Passat and 500 quid.....
Preferably nothing too far away, unless someone local has checked it out for me before driving over myself (I've spent far too much time chasing up and down the country looking at heaps of crap).
Anyone know of something suitable?
