| Cambelt change on a 156 Stuart 12:33:46 |
| | Hi,
I have decided to change the cambelt on my 2002 Alfa 156 which has covered 45K miles before the inevitable happens.
Can anyone recommend a decent garage around either Milton Keynes or St Albans and advise how much this will cost??
Thanks Stuart

| Electics Windows sticking Davea 17:14:30 |
| | Hello
The electric windows on my 147 have been sticking and shuddering up and down when operated. Sometimes they slow to a crawl when opening. Pretty sure they just need some lubricant to get going again but I'm not sure what to use on them? Any suggesstions? WD40 ok?
Thanks

| Alfa 166 ICS error Pjb 04:20:27 |
| | My ICS screen displays an "Airconditioning failure please contact service centre" on my Alfa 166. I have had the software updates 3 time in New Zealand at the agents. There doesn't seem to be faulty but it happens everytime I start the car and occasionaly when on a long trip. Pressing the "Climate" button returns the display to normal.
Any one have any ideas? The agents said it was a software bug. But that sounds like "can't be bothered". I am computer software engineer and I know how easy these things can be investigated and repaired.

| 156 Rear View Mirror Malcolm Osborne 20:59:37 |
| | I succeeded in smashing my LHS mirror on a motor gate that decided to start closing while I was reversing out!
After about 6 weeks, I eventually got a replacement from the dealer.
Fitting the new mirror wasn't too difficult - removing a plastic cover inside the door reveals the 3 allan screws. However, I now discover that the new mirror doesn't have the temperature sensor!
Apart from not being able to obtain a reading for the outside temp, will this affect the climate control?
I still have the sensor from the old mirror. Is it possible to fit this into the new mirror? The cable seems to have the wiring for it, so hopfully there's an empty connector inside.
The other option is to go back to the dealer

| droopy rear suspension on 156 Humpty Dumpty 02:10:53 |
| | 156 2L TS (2000W) SP3 One side at the rear is noticeably lower than the other - about 2cm I've only had a brief look around under the wheel arch and can't see anything obvious, but any suggestions of what could be the cause? Could it just be a knackered damper, or would that not cause a reduction in height?

| 1st meeting with Giulia (GTA?) ! Wojciech Kotas 22:28:37 |
| | Hello Alfa Brothers!
Today I was driving my superb 155 with light alloy TS and I have met my
brother driving clasical Alfa 33 on a Krakow city ring. We have so much fun speeding really fast around our beautiful city but this is not so interesting like ... meeting Giulia (highly probable) GTA! Giulia-driver joined to us and pushed the pedal to the metal... What a sound makes that light-alloy engine! And what a kick it has (he showed us unbelievable accerelation from 160 to 180 kmh)...
It looks like a dream. In Poland we have not so many Alfas on the road. And only a couple of Alfa-boxers or a few 155 with Alfa engines not cast iron TS or VM diesels. Of course there is many of 156, even 166 but you know what I mean. You can see much more S-Klasse tanks then Alfa Spiders. And that Giulia... it was first time a have seen so rare car here (besides the fact of Montreal starting in historical rallye on last December). And three exotic (here) cars were driving next to each other and driving really fast. What a sight and what a sound...
It is hard to say "my dreams comes true". I have not been even dreaming
about it.
After two hours I think it was a gift from a God Don't you belive me? But I can prove this really simply. I still have my driving license - on 30 kilometers there was no cops. And they love hunting on drivers there.
Regards from Poland Wojtek

| bad service experience dt Kruger 19:22:17 |
| | So I book my 2002 147 selespeed in, and decided to have _everything_ fixed. The bill came to 19450 South African rands (thats about 1500 in GBP). This included major service, new windshield wiper motor, selespeed gearbox adjusments to name a couple of major players on the bottom line.
So all goes well until I go to collect my car, and saw there's a new dent in the door. Quickly get the service manager out, who checks the book, and says it is marked as being there beforehand. So I show him a closer look at the dent, pointing out that theres still white powdery residue on it, and they washed the car so its proof it happened recently, and someone didn't want responsibility, so marked the book!!
Anyway to that he said they'll first have to investigate
This is such a disappointment - she was perfect until now.
Dealership is Arnold Chatz in Hyde Park, South Africa btw. In their credit, the engine is absolutely tip-top, but this is hassle I really didn't need.

| 156 very poorly R D S 10:58:44 |
| | Jumped on the motorway earlier, hammer down, picked up a reasonable speed then complete power loss. Coasted onto the hard shoulder, car wouldn't turn over properly on the key, suspected an electrical fault (I have been known to be optimistic). AA bloke turned up, put a booster on the battery, the car struggled to start but fired up and shook like a leaf with blue white smoke billowing from the rear, 'its internal' he said, my pocket went into spasm.
Am I a petrolhead now?

| Knowing when to sell a car R D S 23:05:21 |
| | Do some people have a knack of knowing when to sell a car.
Our 156 we have had under 3 months has just come out of the garage after breaking down. It has had a new piston, various bearings and a camshaft. Do they know or are they just lucky.
I wish you could X-ray a car before buying it.

| Key broken Gt 16:25:34 |
| | My 156 was registered in October 2002. It came with 2 keys and I dropped one and broke it, so it was replaced under warranty by a slightly larger, newer key about 18 months ago. So I have one original key that is still working fine and a new key that locked the car just fine last night, but won't do anything this morning (won't unlock or release boot). I locked the car, put the key in my trouser pocket, changed my clothes and put the same trousers on the next morning and the key doesn't work. I have tried a new battery, but the key seems to be dead. It does not rattle, so it hasn't been physically damaged (like the one it has replaced). It has not been wet, it has not been dropped. Can these keys 'forget' their codes overnight?
Obviously, I can take it to an alfa garage and have them look at it, but can I try anything myself? Is there a secret reset function or something?
Any advise welcome. Ta, GT
