93' Mercury Tracer, MAJOR Transmission problems! HELP!  moose5552 10:33:03 |
| | I have a 1993 Mercury Tracer, (station wagon) 4 cylinder (2.3 liter) and the car has 146,000 miles on it. The car has a "new" tranny taken from a junk car, the original had a major meltdown and it needed to be replaced, so my mechanic friend replaced the original with one from another Mercury Tracer which had approximately 70,000 miles on it. My problem is, the transmission (they call it a trans axle I guess) is acting up. It takes off in first gear fine but won't shift. If I put it in neutral then back to drive (the drive that shows the "D" in a circle) then it shifts to the next gear. BUT, after a few seconds it slips out of gear. Then I repeat the process and again, it shifts to the next gear only to slip out again! Now, after awhile it will down shift by itself, stay that way for a few seconds, then it will straighten out and shift through the gears just fine. Sometimes it takes only once or twice to get it to shift correctly, but other times it will do this for up to 5 or 10 miles. It is strange and frustrating, even to my mechanic who is very good. The gears do not slip, it just pops out of gear. It's very annoying and also I'm afraid it might be a prelude to a major problem. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you in advance! (P.S. I am a disabled person and I desperately need my car for doctor appointments, buying food, etc). |

| | I have a 2004 Honda Civic that has been acting strange lately. It seemed to lose "power" and wasn't shifting properly (it is an automatic) about a week ago. I have a two hour drive that I do frequently and only notice it when I go to accelerate quickly - either from a stopped position or while passing. It is going to a higher RPM before shifting and sounds like it is straining. The check engine light is also on. I haven't had the chance to go to the dealership yet, but would it be a bad idea to keep driving on it until I do? It is a fairly new car and should not have anything wrong with it (I am the original owner). I don't know much about cars - what could be the problem? |

| | The RS is automatic with a 305 V8. The turn signals do not work and the dash gauges don't either...I'm guessing the steering column? Also, the car shuts off when I slow down or when I shift from park...I'm not sure what that could be...dirty fuel injector? Please help me if you have an idea as to what is ailing my car! |

| | the 1999 model is a manual one and there is a sound which comes when i press the clutch to change the gear from 1st to the 2nd and then to other gears. Its just makes a single sound when changing the gear. What kinda problem is this.

| | The last work I had done on my Xterra was an oil change from Jiffy Lube, where they also topped off my anti freeze.
A week later I went to use my AC and it only worked on the maximum setting. No strange sounds of any kind when set to low or mid settings, no strange sounds when the system is blowing at it's max setting.
I would like to get a repair manual to show pictures or schematic drawings so that I can troubleshoot?
Any ideas anyone on where I can get a manual with specifications and what the problem may be with the AC/Heater. |

| | I am currently having problems with my AC in my 2001 325i BMW. It blows cold air on the driver's side and warm air (depending on the outside weather) on the passenger side. There is only 1 temperature control on the car. Now I've taken it to the dealership and the 1st thing they want to do is add feron to check for leaks. I took it to another mechanic and they are stating that it sounds like the blender door is stuck and no feron is needed. If this is the case, the parts are inexpensive, but the dashboard must be removed. It will be approx. 11 hours. Can somebody give some advice? I hate to go through all of that and that nots the issue. Thanks!!!!
