The engine is what makes your car run. That is to say it is the most essential part of your vehicle. Checking your car engine helps a lot in maintaining an excellent performing engine. To check this very significant auto part, stop first the engine. Let the engine oil be poured down to the oil pan. Then, pull the engine oil dipstick. Checking your owner's manual will guide you in looking for the engine oil dipstick. Using a clean rag, any cloth or tissue, wipe it off and then. Insert it again down into its right place.

| Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 2003 Door Ajar Sly67 23:37:24 |
| | I have a ford explorer eddie bauer 2003 and the door ajar light keeps coming on. the only way to shut it off is to turn off the dimmer light switch completely. In relation to this my button for the door lock/unlock on the driver's side does not work unless the explorer is running, if the vehicle is turned off it does not work. also, the automatic seat settings buttons do not work unless the dimmer switch is set to off. the radio/cd used to keep playing when i turned off and removed the key but no longer plays.

OK, I am the proud owner of a 2000 Chevy Blazer (note the sarcasm). Anyway, I have literally replaced every major part on this vehicle in the last 2 years. Most recently, when I take my vehicle out it drives fine for about an hour or two. When it begins to get hot outside, it starts cutting out. It will not take fuel. It starts cutting out and eventually dies. I am not overheating or anything like that. I usually pull off the side of the road, let it sit for a few minutes and then it starts right up and takes off. Five minutes later it does this again. NOTE: It only does this when it is hot outside. I drove it over 200 miles one way in the rain with absolutely no problem. On the return trip it was 100+ degrees outside. It drove fine for about an hour and in the last 30 miles to my home I broke down at least 15 to 20 times. My mechanics are completely puzzled. I have had my fuel pump replaced, fuel filter replaced, mass air flow sensor changed...nothing is working! Has anyone else experienced this? If so a little help would be appreciated. I cannot afford a new vehicle right now and really need this problem resolved. Oh by the way, it also seems to do this when I am running the AC. Is this a seasonal thing? Will my vehicle only run in rain and snow?? ADVICE PLEASE!
This is purely a guess but sounds like it could be the ignition module/coil overheating.

| Towing question Big E Lewis 07:32:10 |
| | I have a 1990 Jimmy fullsized 4x4 with a 350 engine and the 700r4 auto trans. When pulling a car trailer with a car on it, should I put the trans in Drive instead of Overdrive? I just bought this last month, and will be towing with it for the 1st time this coming weekend. The 97 f150 we just sold, we had an overdrive on/off button on the column, and I turned it off for towing purposes. Is putting the shift lever in Drive the proper way to tow with this vehicle? Thanks for any advice, Earl

| Tire load ratings Kurt P . Herzog 01:53:44 |
| | I have been running Les Schwab XTX tires on my half-ton Chevy 4x4 with good results, though I still get an occasional flat from rock punctures on gravel roads. The tires are "C" load rating. The all-up weight of the rig is 6100 lbs. I would like to get better protection from punctures, as at my age it is a real chore to change a wheel.
My question is what are the trade-offs of upping the load rating on the next set to "D"? Will I see any difference in tire tread wear? Any difference in the ride? Any adjustment to air pressure? Any reduction in punctures?
Thanks . . . Kurt

I just wired up my new Hella driving lights - I'm pretty sure everything is ok but for some reason instead of coming on with the high beam - they turn off! I've tested all three leads running to the head lights and they all have power when the ignition is off and the keys out. However to come on the voltage drops to 0 on one wire, depending on high or low beam. Is this normal? or should the high beam have no power until activated? It's a 2006 Yaris in case this matters. Find at Hella a drawing:

| WINNABLE Gas War Jeff Gagnon 01:55:22 |
| | GAS WAR??
a GAS WAR idea that WILL work >
This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. It's worthy ofyour consideration:
Join the resistance! I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a gallon bysummer and it might possibly go higher! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around earlier!
The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
But whoever thought of THIS idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and join with us!
By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.79 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..... not sellers.
With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
How?
Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.
Here's the idea:
For the rest of 2007, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.
But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do!
Now, don't wimp out at this point.... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people.
I am sending this e-mail to 30 people. If each of us sends it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)... and so on... by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers.
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. (But I am, so trust me on this one.) How long would all that take?
If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!
I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you? Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.
I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.
