Gary BOBHOLZ via CarKB.com 8 April 2005 04:02:13
97 Blazer w/115k miles on it. Have this code po740 which is lock up clutch
in the converter circuit. The trans. I have is 4L60E. Is this something I
can repair myself or do I need to take her in. Thanks.

Should be scanned with a trans capable scanner to confirm TCC solenoid
operation and degree of TCC slippage and code to determine true cause of
problem.

Not sure, but sounds like a spendy bill to me.That`s a lot of miles on
the 4L60E.
Don`t know anyone that`s had that many miles on one.
Just my 2 cents!

Just did a recent scan....codes are the PO740,PO753,PO758. Used the code
reader from Autozone.........on the way home from there the service light
went off. Should I still be concerned about this problem and should I still
take it in? Thanks.

I'm having the same problem with my 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix. It doesn't happen when the car is cold, but on hot days when I run it around for a while then go to get on the highway, the trans will go into fourth gear, then right around the point where it should lock up, it still is in slip mode. I have an in car ODB scanner, and I see that the car's computer says the TCC is locked, but it is not, and the slip monitor verifies that nothing is happening in the system. After a few seconds of slipping while the TCC is supposed to be engaged, the car picks up the problem and cuts 4th gear out completely. It only will work again after the car has cooled for a few hours. I still have to verify if it is a poor electrical connection or if it is a solenoid problem. (I fear it is the latter because bad solenoids usually start malfunctioning when they get hot) Let me know if you have taken care of your problem and what you had to do.

I have a 1996 Chevy Geo Tracker with a automatic transmission.I,m getting the code po740 which is T C C circut malfunction.I relpaced the lock up solinoid inside the transmission pan, new filter and fluid and still the light is on.The solonid cost about $4o.00 at napa..It didnt fix my problem,so i dont know how to fix it.My trans does not slip at all but still the light stays on.
